Cricket : Ashes Fourth Test
I have to say that even though I've watched alot of cricket
over the years, the last two test matches have really been
something else. We've had it all so far, and the next test
should be no different. England really must be kicking
themselves after gaining a great position in the last test,
with Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath holding out for the draw.
Despite not winning the test, there is a new sense of
confidence amongst the England team.
All the batsmen have contributed in some way, and in
Freddie Flintoff, they have a genuine match winner. What
brings me more optimism is how badly the Aussies have
adapted to the reverse swing of Simon Jones and Flintoff. It
seems that Katich, and more importantly Adam Gilchrist have
struggled to read the bowling.
The only thing that may thwart England is that rain is
forecast at some point, and I'm sure there will be more than
a few interruptions. There has been alot of money come in
for the draw and the price has shortened for the stalemate.
After originally going out at 2/1, the price has come in to
shortish 13/8.
England have a great run scoring rate on their
side, scoring at over 4 runs an over so far, which is
incredible for a Test Series against Australia, and this may
prove vitally important if there are to be stoppages for
rain. The English bowlers are also pretty nifty with the
ball, taking a wicket every five overs. With all the money
for the draw, it ay be best to pick England at a nice 13/5.
Lets not forget, the Aussies will be without Glenn McGrath.
Recommendation: England @ 13/5
If we turn our attention to the Series Top England Bat
market, Marcus Trescothick looks a little too short at 7/4
currently.
He leads with 206 runs. Kevin Pietersen at a short 10/3
looks to have gone off the boil somewhat, after a blistering
start to Test cricket, and he may have peaked too early.
The England skipper holds much more value at a nice 3/1. He
scored 166 in the last test and I'm sure he will want to
continue his form into Trent Bridge. Go with the captain.
Recommendation: Michael Vaughan @ 3/1
