Well, finally the motor racing season is upon us once
again, and it kicks off with the first Grand Prix of the year this weekend
in Melbourne. Everyone is asking,
can anyone halt the dominance of Michael Schumacher? Will he gain an amazing his eight world title?
After dominating the 2004 title, the German will line up on Sunday
knowing that he is the marked man, and he is going to be the benchmark for the
other drivers on the grid. There are some positive signs,
however for the opposition drivers. Both McLaren and Renault
looked to have improved from last season, setting some
competitive winter testing times that will have got the Ferrari
team thinking about their clear dominance, and they will be resting on the grid
uneasily I'm sure.
Michael Schumacher is driving an updated version of last season's
car, while the majority of his racing rivals will start 2005 in fresh new cars.
This gives the impression that Ferrari may have rested on
their laurels for this race. Their new car is not scheduled
for arrival until May 8th, and this may open the door for
some unlikely podium positions for less favoured drivers and
teams. One man who may benefit is Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella,
who has been storming around the track during the winter
period, and he has put up so very quick testing times.
I'm
not sure he can win the race, but he does offer some nice
value at around 10/1. A better bet maybe for a podium finish
at 9/4. With a huge amount of money invested, the Toyota
team of Ralf Schumacher have underachieved, but surely they must be nearly there
as far as being competitive. They too have posted some
extremely quick times during practice and they look a decent
shout to there or there abouts on the final lap. Whichever
