The old adage 'horses for courses' will undoubtedly come
into play this week at the Cheltenham Festival, but the same
can be said for this week's PGA event at Bay Hill, where Tiger
Woods is a thoroughly deserved 5/2 favourite. Prior to last
year's 46th, Woods has won the Bay Hill every year since 2000,
with a personal round average of more than four shots better
than the rest of the field.
His price might seem a bit skinny
to some, but when you compare his chance to some similarly
priced horses at the Festival this week, then Tiger simply
has to be included in staking plans this week, if only as
a saver. He is almost certain to be a bigger price in our
'In-Play' market, which will be available throughout.
On a course where the large heavily sloping greens put the
emphasis on putting, the main bet, however, will be going
on Stewart Cink (who has few peers with the flat stick) at
a more punter friendly price of 33/1. His putting stats, allied
with a consistent 2005 record, and a fine course record (2nd
in 2003, 6th in 2000 and 15th in 2002), make him a solid betting
proposition this week.
This is not an event associated with first time winners,
but Joe Ogilvie, as statistically the best putter on Tour,
must also come into the reckoning He is playing well enough
of late (tied for 2nd last week) to merit the nod. Twice a
runner-up at Bay Hill, the smooth putting Brad Faxon is coming
off a good finish at The Honda Classic, where he closed with
65 to tie for sixth, and he could well get into our 5 places
for each-way betting this week
Our Picks: Cink @ 33/1, Joe Ogilvie @ 80/1,
Brad Faxon @ 100/1 (save on Woods at 5/2, or 'In-Play')
