Bookies VC Bet have eased Best Mate out to 3/1 for the Gold
Cup after his defeat at Leopardstown’s Lexus Chase.
Henrietta Knight’s star went off at odds on for the
race but found local favourite Beef Or Salmon too-hot-to-handle
at the Dublin track.
”That was Beef Or Salmon’s first win in four
efforts against Best Mate,” said VC Bet’s Ian
Marmion. “And that could be decisive by the time we
head to the Cheltenham Festival.”
Michael Hourigan-trained Beef Or Salmon went off at 9/4 for
the Lexus and is now rated a 6/1 chance for the Gold Cup.
The defeat was Best Mate’s seventh loss in 21 starts
over jumps.
”In Best Mate’s defence you’d have to say
that the soft ground at Leopardstown didn’t suit at
all but that should take nothing away from what was a truly
brilliant seven-length victory by the Irish horse.
”Beef Or Salmon’s connections will be feeling
quietly confident when the two hopefully lock horns at Cheltenham
in the spring,” added Marmion.
