Golf returns to the shores of Europe this week with the European Tour's flagship event. South African Ernie Els is the bookmakers favourite at a tasty 9/2, but this event throws up a wide variety of upsets each year! The 500/1 outsider, Scott Drummond, won the tournament last year, which was his maiden victory. The three previous winners came in at odds off 150/1, 80/1 and 150/1! This time around, an impressive field has assembled, and it is now hard to see a rank outsider upsetting the frontrunners. However, with a top-class field assembled this week, it's high time that one of the bigger names did the business, and two English players stand out, in Lee Westwood and Luke Donald.
Luke Donald has come to life in recent months, making a name for himself after claiming a tied third place in the US Masters. It seems likely that he will fall over the finish line shortly and claim his first tournament win. Lee Westwood is not currently in much form at the moment, after missing his last four PGA cuts, but he did finish a deserved fifth in last week's Irish Open, and that course is very similar to this one - he should be worth a punt at a very generous 33/1.
