Tiger Woods is now only a 3/1 shot for this year's first Major,
the US Masters, after ending his 15 month stroke-play drought
with a 3-stroke victory at the weekend. However, when you
consider he only hit 25 out of a possible 66 fairways over
the four days, suggesting that his problems with the driver
remain, it is questionable whether he's quite back to his
pre-2004 best. With that in mind, and with both Singh and
Els showing no signs of easing up, I would rather back him
to win no majors at all this season at 10/11 (from Evens).
Tip: Tiger Woods to win NO Majors this season @ 10/11.
With no Woods in the field for this week's Bob Hope Classic,
the mantle of favouritism goes to Phil Mickelson at 15/2,
but as he was a dismal tied-56th last week (16 shots behind
Woods), we shall look elsewhere for the winner. The pro-am
format of this event does not suit everyone, but one player
who clearly enjoys it is Jonathan Kaye, who has a stroke average
of 67 over the last two Hopes. With two good finishes in Hawaii
this year, Kaye looks set for another good week, along with
Mike Weir (winner in 2003), and Scott McCarron, who impressed
with his 6th place finish last week. With play in this 90-hole
marathon starting on Wednesday, don't worry if you miss the
start, as we'll be betting in-play throughout this event.
Three Off The Tee: Jonathan Kaye @ 28/1, Mike Weir
@ 14/1, Scott McCarron @ 66/1. Each-way ¼ 1.2.3.4.5.

Golf: Lefty a lay say VC Bet
Defending champ Phil Mickelson is prime laying material at
this week’s Bob Hope Classic according bookies VC Bet.
”His body language at last week’s Buick Invitational
was dreadful and he just didn’t look there at all,”
said odds compiler Glen Hyslop.
”On that basis we’re prepared to open up at top
price in the industry at 8/1 in an effort to pull the punters
in.”
The maverick left hander who also claimed this event in 2002
finished T56 at Torrey Pines last week.
One player VC Bet don’t want to see much business about
is 14/1 Stewart Cink.
The losing Ryder Cupper recently landed consecutive T5 finishes
in Hawaii and is expected to post a bold challenge in California.
”We have opened up at 14s and that’s the lowest
quote around,” added Hyslop.
“He seems to have three very good rounds and then lets
himself down a little with a mediocre round.
"On this week’s four easy tracks it should finally
click for him.”
This week the players will rotate five rounds over Bermuda
Dunes Country Club, La Quinta Country Club, Tamarisk Country
Club as well as Arnold Palmer’s private course which
is known as PGA West.
Two of the rounds, including the final round, will take place
at PGA West.
Stephen Ames is currently the firm’s heaviest liability
after the VC Bet’s opening show of 50/1 took an early
hammering.
The Trinidad-born 38–year-old with the toothy grin
is now trading at 33/1.
