The Open Championship once again arrives at St Andrews. We
did well to tip Tim Clark to win last week's Scottish Open
at a price of 28/1 and I would like to think he can continue
his form into this tournament. At a big price of 66/1 he is
well worth a small punt.
The large greens of St Andrews will suit him, as one of
his main weaknesses is his pitching, but that should snot
come into play for this tournament. Then only thing going
against him is his previous experience at the is event, so
he does not fill all the credentials for a bet.
One man who does fit the bill is
Davis Love at a big price of 33/1.
His record here is very good, he has finished fourth and
fifth here in the last two years, and he is ion great form
coming into this event. In his last four tournaments he has
finished fourth, second, and sixth.
If we are going by previous records at the Open, then 1997 winner
Justin Leonard comes into play, and he is overpriced at a
huge 66/1. The lengthening of the course will suit him and
he is a player in form, with a seventh place finish in the
Barclays Classic.
Looking further down the card, Fred Couples at a massive 50/1
looks a cracking bet in the Top American market, while Fredrik Jacobson a likely
candidate for 'Top European' at 20/1. We cannot dismiss
Tiger here of course, but again he is little value. He is
capable of blowing this field away, but he is not the player
he once was and should be passed over at measly odds of
11/4.
