Forpadydeplasterer catches the eye as the Irish
contingent will bid to win the race for the first
time since Moscow Flyer in 2002.
Coincidentally, a horse with the same sire as the
Tom Cooper trained 7 year old. The owners had high
hopes of landing the Ballymore last year and will be
determined to walk away with the pot this time
around. The shorter 2 mile trip will suit and he’s a
consistent jumper.
Danger: The Paul Nicholls trained Tatenen is the
favourite for the race while Follow The Plan, who
got the better of the aforementioned horse in the
Durkan New Homes Novices Chase on Boxing Day, is a
serious each way squeak.
This was more like it though, winning the Grade 2
Flyingbolt Chase, although his task was considerably
eased when the favourite departed at the first
fence. He won well enough though and given he is the
second highest hurdler in the field behind Tatenen,
there are grounds for believing he is overpriced and
could represent some each-way value.
GAUVAIN won the rescheduled Kingmaker Chase that has
been an excellent record to the Arkle in the last
decade or so and will probably run here for Charlie
Mann. Switched to Sandown this year, the form of
this year's race looks rocky however as the front
three in the market all ran below expectations so it
was left to the two outsiders to fight it out.
I just don't think he is good enough. One of
those disappointments was PANJO BERE who had
previously beaten Calgary Bay but he was too bad to
be true here and is now effectively out of the Arkle
reckoning.
PASCO was shortened after his win last
week but Nicholls feels that he is a flat track
horse and is virtually certain to therefore wait for
Aintree instead
