With PANDORAMA out of the Festival, BENSALEM
going for the Albert Bartlett and HURRICANE FLY now
looking unlikely to run in this particular race, the
Ballymore Properties Novices' Hurdle is not looking
anywhere near as strong as a week ago.
Monsignor was the last favourite to win this race
in 2000 which doesn’t bode well for the well
supported Diamond Harry. Before that there were four
favourite winners in a row of the race, so perhaps
we’re reading too much into trends at the moment.
Nick Williams' unbeaten six-year-old will be
favourite should Cousin Vinny opt for the Supreme
Novices’ Hurdle on day one. Ruby Walsh landed the
prize last year and will be looking to repeat the
feat on board Paul Nicholls’ The Nightingale after
his impressive success at Taunton in November.
Lightly raced 6 year old should go well.
I know Alan King really likes KARABAK for this
and feels his Bensalem would have a great chance of
exacting his revenge on DIAMOND HARRY if they met
again but he goes for the Albert Bartlett so I
reckon he really fancies his chance with Karabak of
beating Nick Williams' novice as he is more the
finished article of the pair right now.
Karabak, who was bought by J P McManus at the
weekend, is a horse that has improved with each
start and I just love the way this little horse puts
his head down and gives you everything, very much
like an on-song Katchit and his Ascot win last time
to give 7lbs and a 14 lengths' thrashing to a
well-regarded horse in Kangaroo Court was superb.
