Champion Bumper Free Bets

A two mile flat race without any fences or hurdles might sound like we're taking the mick, but we're not.

It's the only race at the festival where the horses don't jump so at least the risk of your selection falling is absent; unless Nina Carberry decides to fall off her mount again, like in 2005 with Karanja.

While Sicilian Secret is a worthy favourite, Dermot Weld's Rite Of Passage has good form and her recent win at the paddypower.com Naas Bumper sealed off his excellent preparation. Danger: Philip Fenton's Dunguib.

WAVE POWER is one less horse for Willie Mullins not to worry about having got readily beaten on his first run for Howard Johnson last week. He was previously around a 16/1 shot having won at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting when trained by John Kiely. We usually get a few leading bumper contenders change ownership in the final couple of weeks so don't be surprised if they are a few more.

Paul Nicholls confirmed he will run his Ascot winner RED HARBOUR but says he won't be as forward as the Mullins horses so was not overly hopeful of hitting the frame. Mullins is likely to have one less headache of who to bring over as QUADRILLON (one of his nine possibles) was beaten at Naas on Sunday at odds of 2-5.

The winner, however, is a player and Dermot Weld's RITE OF PASSAGE is now unbeaten in two bumpers having previously won at the Galway Festival in the summer. Although he is an unbeaten five-year-old which is a profile I like for this race, I would be worried that Weld described him as big and immature after he had won, a victory that was not unexpected by those close to the horse.
