Foxhunter Chase Free Bets

Known as the 'Amateur's Gold Cup', the Christie's Foxhunter Chase is the Championship race for the stars of the point-to-point circuit. Horses are only qualified for the race if they have either been placed first or second in two hunter chases in the last twenty six months, won two  open point-to-point races in that same time period, or a combination of the two.

CAPPA BLEU has been all the rage since qualifying last weekend but he looks short enough now for a horse with no wins under Rules like all winners since 1992. At 16/1 he was interesting, at his current odds he is not so interesting.

OFAREL D'AIRY qualified by winning the Willoughby De Broke Hunters' Chase at Warwick as did Castle Mane and Cavelero not so many years ago before winning this. It was hard work though and his main market rivals disappointed so he has plenty to find for me.

LIMERICK BOY won again at Newbury but he is a flat track horse for me and more of a fancy for the Aintree equivalent. The Irish have a great recent record in this race and they could be ones to look at once the five-day declarations are made and it will be interesting if the former winner WHYSO MAYO is declared as he could be a class above these if back to his best.

ROYAL AUCLAIR qualified with an all-the-way win at Fontwell but I like young and up-and-coming hunters rather than horses on the way down.

Another former classy chaser under Rules, JUVEIGNEUR, also qualified at the weekend winning a point-to-point in Ireland but he wouldn't fit my profile either.

Trained by Eugene O'Sullivan, do not forget he won this race with Lovely Citizen 18 years ago. AGUS A VIC is my idea of the most likely winner if he runs but his trainer is still of the opinion he will miss Cheltenham for Aintree.
