With only a few weeks to go until the festival, the ante-post markets are well and truly hotting up with horses having their final outings before they head to Prestbury Park in March.
When picking your ante-post selections, try and make sure that your horse is likely to run in that race.
Many trainers will declare their runners in more than one race as they are undecided what race to choose. With ante-post you are taking that risk that your horse may not line up for the race and thus why you may be getting a bigger price than it will be on the day.
Most bookmakers go on the basis that if your horse isn't declared in the race you have bet it in then you will not receive a refund. Therefore, losing your money without even getting a run. So, ultimately you are taking a gamble when betting a horse ante-post as your selection could be re-routed to another race or could even suffer an injury in training and not make the tapes for your desired race.
For the festival many bookmakers will have special offers throughout trying to attract business. One incentive to look out for is in the big handicaps like the Coral Cup and County Hurdle.
With so many runners going to post bookmakers could enhance their place offers and could extend to the first five for each way returns instead of the standard four places. Some of the bookmakers may even stretch to the first six places but these will be few and far between in the large runner handicaps and so it is paramount to shop around for that all-important extra place which could make all the difference with your each-way selection. |
