There isn't going to be a total smoking ban in England anyway. The rule that smoking is banned in restuarants and pubs that sell food will effectively become smoking is banned in restuarants and food is banned in pubs.

The effect of second hand smoke is exxagerated but banning it in an outdoor environment is OTT particularly when you consider the car fumes the fans will inhale on the way to the game. It sounds a bit like Blackpool banning paddling in the sea in case someone throws a plugged in electric fire into New York harbour.

I doubt it would ever have come about but for the fact the stadia are all-seater and if you're stuck near smokers, you cannot move. if smoke is blowing in your face for 90 mins, it doesn't really matter that you're outside, its still unpleasant (even more so if you are a non-smoker because your sense of smell and taste are more likely to be intact). the added benefit for clubs is that there is less cleaning required without all the strewn butts to remove. talking about health fascists is a real red herring as clubs are not trying to stop you smoking full stop, they just don't want you smoking near their other customers who don't like it. are they wrong to listen to the majority of their supporters? two things.
1. It is a great move, a fair move and a modern approach to the smoking debate. No-one should have to tolerate a cancer flowing towards them without having a choice. I am a smoker.
2. You WILL be back inside WHL, and that is a guarantee and you KNOW it mate.

Hail Hail the Non-Smoking Spurs are Here.
