I've been with Fret Lad most of this season and have been rewarded with placed efforts at 16-1, 10-1 and 25-1. I'm hoping he can finally deliver the goods at Newmarket on Friday evening. The John Quinn-trained gelding ran a cracker on ground too soft at Goodwood last Wednesday when the top-rated only found the bang-in form Sierra Vista too good over 5f. To rub salt into the wound, the latter was second-top on my ratings for that contest and the reverse exacta paid a massive £719.50.
The extra furlong at Newmarket will be ideal and, with a relatively dry week forecast, the ground should firm up nicely. Quinn also has his team in top order, underlined by Fantasy Believer's performance in the Stewards' Cup last Saturday. Another yard in good order at present is Jeremy Noseda's.
His juvenile Serevi has a couple of entries this week and is top-rated for either contest and looks difficult to oppose. This son of Cape Cross had the misfortune of meeting the highly regarded King Orchisiosis when second on his latest outing. Both the third and fourth have won since and Serevi looks a solid bet to break his maiden. Byron Bay is another selection with a couple of entries this week.
I'm hoping he'll stick to his own age group and head to Haydock on Thursday.
