The Ayr Gold Cup has once again come round and we have two
major picks for you. We are bypassing the favourites of Out
After Dark and Continent at 9/1, as the going is predicted
to be good to firm, and there is little chance of rain
falling, which will not suit these two horses. Clerk of the
course Anthea Morshead said watering at the course would
continue as the ground remains good to firm.
She said on Wednesday: "There was only one millimetre of
rain overnight last night and there will only be couple
tonight and it will be dry throughout the three days, so we
will water to maintain the ground as good to firm."
Looking down the field, two horses that stand out are
Partners in Jazz and Philharmonic, who are both available at
a juicy 20/1. Partners in Jazz had a good run in the seven
furlong June meeting Totesport International,
finishing third. He is a horse who likes this sort of
distance, and it is interesting to note that the horse who
came second in that race, Goodricke, has gone on to win the
Group 1 Sprint Cup, so the pointers look good for this one.
You t cant get away from the form earlier in the season with
Newseeker and Goodricke, and he has proved here he can
handle the good to firm going.
Philarmonic is another who likes this sort of distance,
and he is a stone better off after coming second to
stable mate Fonthill Road (12/1) in May. Of course with the
Ayr Gold Cup alot depends on the draw these two horses get,
but at 20/1 they are definitely worth a punt, on the head or
each way.
