The Booz Allen Classic always brings out the top players and
this year there is no exception, with three of the world's
top four, and eight of the top ten. There is no Tiger Woods
this time around however.. With such a competitive field,
this is a difficult market to get stuck into.
With the US Open next week, many of the better players
will simply trying to fine tine their game in preparation
for the big one, and they may not be looking to win the
tournament, merely to get in some sort of form. The top
players are actually not in the best of form at the moment,
in particular Vijay Singh, who was awful last week. Our
attention therefore looks down the card, and there are a few
names that look like a good punt this time around.
Jim Furyk looks like a player who can do something
this week, and he has done everything but win this year. he
is in great form - In the last three months Furyk has had
five top ten finishes, which includes two runners-up spots,
and would have been closer than 8th last week but for a very
slow start.
In last years event, he came in joint fifth, and so he
looks like a decent bet at 16/1.
The best value however, is further down the card and our
selection is Bo Van Pelt at a huge 66/1. All the signs
point to a good performance - Van Pelt has been close to
winning in two of his last five starts, which includes
out-playing Tiger Woods for most of the final round last
week.
