The high altitude of the course in Colorado is the flavour
this week as the US Tour season continues. Expect some huge
driving here, with players able to hit a massive 400 yards.
The unusual conditions means that players have to adjust to
this and experience counts for alot at this course. This can
be seen in past winners.
The International at Castle Pines in Colorado is the
annual Modified Stapleford scoring tournament on the US
Tour.
Phil Mickelson is one such player who has adapted
to this course and he has a great record here. Since 196 he
has finished six times in the top sixteen. However, his
recent form is nothing to write home about, and he has not
captured that form. At 9/1 he is a little short for our
linking, and he can be overlooked this year aorund.
If we go by the Open form, then one player who stands out
here is Spaniard Sergio Garcia at 12/1. He has a great,
consistent record here, with four top twenty finishes here
in the last five years. And lets not forget his recent form,
with a tied fifth place at the Open, which was his third
time he had finished in the top five in only four starts.
Of course lets not forget that the Stapleford scoring
record comes into play here, which suits the more aggressive
players.
The Stapleford scoring system is where an eagle is where
players receiving eight points for an albatross, five for an
eagle, two for a birdie, nothing for par, minus one for
bogey and minus two for double bogey or worse. If we are talking about
players who are good at adapting this course, then Stuart
Appleby is another who plays well here, being runner up in 1997 and third in 2000.
He is available at a very backable 50/1. Another
player at big odds who looks like a nice bet is Tom Pernice at 80/1.
He is another past winner who may be worth a dabble at some
nice juicy odds. (each-way ¼ odds 1.2.3.4.5)
Recomendations: Sergio Garcia @ 12/1; Stuart Appleby @
50/1; Tiger Woods @ 2/1
