Find the comfy chair and get ready for four days of non stop Sky coverage, as the US Open has finally come round this year. This time round, betting is a little different, in that the top four players in the world are not playing at the top of their game, and winner last year Retief Goosen also falls into that catagory.. Instead we'll be loking at some other Americans in form at this time. David Toms is one such player who seems to be hitting form at just the right time. He has had a third place, second place and eigth in his last three starts, and he looks to be great value at 25/1. Even his relative lack of length off the tee will be no handicap this week.

The US Open is known for those little deft touches around the green area, and accurate shooting - and David Toms does have these in his locker. Not to be outdone, Texan Justin Leonard looks huge at  50/1 - he has already won twice this year, and already has experience of winning a Major, when he won in 1997.  Leonard also has form at Pinehurst, where he finished a respectable 15th in 1999, and he'll be looking forward to the challenge. If we look at the bookmakers favourites, Tiger Woods of course has a lot of support at 5/1, but to me this is just too short to take on.

Looking closer to home an Europe, we must mention that its almost four decades since A European has triumphed here, but there are over twenty entrants this time around.  it does look as if the US players are likely to be there at the end, so its best to look at the Top European market than the outright here. Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia look attractive bets here, , but there is value in backing David Howell at a best priced 22/1.

That price looks to be inflated as he is a player in form and impressed greatly  on his Masters debut back in April.
