Horse Racing; Glorious Goodwood

PRINCE VECTOR (2.00) looked the likely winner at Windsor last time when moving to the front with 4f to go in a lm4f handicap. Unfortunately for him, he was cut down late by Scriptwriter.

Alan King’s three-year-old colt had previously been runner-up at the same venue in a 1m2f handicap. This 1m3f distance is between the two and it could
be the answer.  Windsor although by no means a replica of Goodwood, has its share and turns, and the selection should handle the track. The handicapper has given him a chance, raising him 1lb since his last run.

Sir Michael Stoute is to be feared in this type of race with lightly raced sorts and his Dubal Venture could be more than a handicapper.
Ignore his latest run at Ripon where something was amiss. Concentrate instead on his close second at Sandown the time before, when he got off to a slow start. He must have fast ground though.

The Group 3 Jersey Stakes could hold the key to the second race with two of the York contenders, HOME AFFAIRS (2.30) and Oude, taken to be in the shake-up
Home Affairs came third at the Royal meeting and if Proclamation, the winner of that event, follows up in the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday, it will be big tip.

The 7f trip was too short for Stoute’s three-year old colt, especially as he had only just got up over a mile the time before when winning the Silver Bowl at Haydock.
We can safely ignore his recent fourth at Chantilly (Group 1 Prix Jean Prat) because the bit came out of his mouth in the first furlong. It was therefore an exceptjonal effort to finish within a length of the winner Turtle Bowl. Saeed Bin Suroor’s Oude was having his first run of the season in the Jersey in which he only beat two home.

He rounded off last term with a third to Etlaala in Doncaster’s Champagne Stakes and if he could find that form again he would be a threat.

Aidan O’Brien’s HITCHCOCK (4.20) was uneasy in the market on his debut at The Curragh in mid-July. He almost certainly needed the run and finished fourth. He’ll be sharper in the two-year-old maiden.

QUSOOR (4.55) has two other nursery options this week but is good enough for this competitive heat. She made all last time out at Ripon and had something in hand.
With Richard Fahey in form, DANELOR (5.30) makes plenty of appeal in the concluding apprentice handicap.

Recommendations: Steward's Cup Picks: Gift Horse @ 6/1; Texas Gold @ 16/1 (Each-way)
