As the longest race of the festival the National Hunt Steeple Chase is all about stamina as the horses battle it out round the four mile marathon trip. When looking for selections in this contest it's all about going for a dour stayer who can find that little extra up the energy-sapping Cheltenham hill.
Chicago Grey is currently heading the market at 6/1 with most firms for trainer Gordon Elliott. Last seen down the field in a grade one at Leopardstown behind Bostons Angel it is hard to side with Chicago Grey as that contest was only over three miles and with the extra mile he is likely to struggle stamina-wise and I wouldn't be backing him at the skinny 6/1.
Alfa Beat (10/1 Stan James) is unbeaten in his last five starts and has some classy from but his trainer Charles Byrnes has hinted that he may not be ready for the race and so don't go throwing your money at a possible non-runner.
