Red Square Vodka Gold Cup 16th Feb 2008

The Red Square Vodka Gold Cup at Haydock Park is a tough, 3miles 4 1/2 furlong trip which provides a great indication for trainers as to which horses will be a threat at the main horse racing event of the year, the Aintree Grand National.

In last years competition, Ossmoses dug deep to land trainer Don Forster a nice little payday of £125,000 prize.

This is Haydock's most expensive race and is eagerly awaited.  This years favourite, Miko De Beauchene is a shortish looking 9/2 to be first past the post in this twenty four horse race.  The horse is definitely not going to Aintree but he is already a National winner, having won the Welsh version for Robert Alner at Chepstow last time out, where he dug deep to overhaul the gallant Halcon Genelardais in a driving finish Fro those looking for a bit more value may look down the card at Geeveem, currently trading at around 7/1. The Paul Nicholls trained horse has been almost unstoppable this season and whatever he runs cant be ignored. The eight year old was prone  to mistakes last season but has jumped better in two runs this season, and he travelled well behind Miko De Beauchene at Chepstow until his stamina gave out in the closing stages.

Elsewhere,  Point Barrow and Over the Creek are 8/1 respectively. For those looking for longer odds, Irish Raptor is available at 14/1 while Captain Corelli can be picked up at 14s. Irish trainer Arthur Moore can make a successful  raid with King Johns Castle. Having started the season as with a respectable effort over 2m4f at Navan in December, he stepped up in trip for a valuable 3m handicap in Leopardstown last time out and only went down narrowly to Mister Top Notch a good fourth in the Grade 1 Hennessey Cognac Gold Cup on Sunday. He looks the type who could improve further now that he tackles a marathon trip for the first time and a big run here would set him up nicely for a shot at the Grand National.

This should be a cracking race and there are a whole host of free bets for prospective horse racing punters to use!
