Well, thats the last time Matthew Hoggard will tell Aussie quickie Glenn McGrath that he's 'past it'!

You cannot failed to be impressed by the Aussie veteran as he quickly swept the England top order away in the first innings at Lords. And with a little known bowler called Warne looking pretty dangerous, starting to get the drift back in his bowling, how are England's chances for the second test?

One match doesnt make a market, but Australia have now been backed in from a shortish looking 1/2 to and incredibly short 1/8 for the Ashes. Even though they did dominate England, securing a 239 run win in the first test, does it warrant our backing? The series draw is available at a more sensible price of 8/1, while for those who think miracles can happen on English soil, the home team are available at 9/1 for victory.

It was interesting on Saturday, as the storm clouds loomed over, all the money was piled on for the draw, forcing the price into a short 7/2 from a relatively massive 8/1. its a shame really that England couldn't have offered a little more resistance. Once the clouds cleared, McGrath and Warne mopped up the tail end to secure the Aussie victory.

Glenn McGrath did mention in the build up to this series that the Aussies would whitewash England 5-0 and to be fair, after last weeks showing, he may not be far off the mark. The 20/1 price for a whitewash was quickly cut by the bookies to a  ore respectable 13/2.

The teams travel to Brimingham next, and England do tend to fare better there, and actually they do offer some appeal at a big 9/2.

England should do better at Edgbaston, Michael Vaughan cannot keep scoring under ten runs an innings and he should come good eventually. The one shining light however is Kevin Pietersen, who is a nice price of 7/2 to be top batsman for England. Surely the attack of McGrath and Warne cannot weave their magic two matches in a row?

Recommendations: England 9/2,
