Super Bowl Final - NE Patriots vs PHL Eagles
Su Feb 6 – 6:30 pm EST (FOX)/23:30 GMT
New England (16-2) and Philadelphia (15-3) finally meet up
in Super Bowl XXXIX at Jacksonville's Alltell Stadium. While
the Patriots have won two of the last three Super Bowls, Philly
have fallen short in their bid to join them after losing three
straight NFC title bouts before routing the Falcons. New England
will be looking to defend its title and become the first team
to win three Super Bowls in four seasons since Dallas (1992-95),
while the Eagles are making their first appearance since January
1981, when they lost to the Raiders.
Here at bet365 we make New England odds on 1/3 favorites
for the game, and seven points ahead on the handicap. On paper
this looks a great game against the two best teams from the
respective conferences. However, my gut feeling is that the
Pats will win this game comfortably. The 'no stars' Pats were
simply awesome against the Steelers in the AFC Championship
game, scoring 41 points on a defense that had allowed a high
of 30 points all season. They look to be the ultimate team,
working together as a finely tuned machine with all of them
knowing exactly what they have to do on each and every play,
brought together by arguably the best coach in the league,
Bill Belicheck. The only suspect part of their game is their
defensive backs (due to injury) but, without Terrell Owens,
the Philly wide receivers are simply not good enough. Should
Owens play a little bump and run will stop him for sure!
The Super Bowl has historically been a blow out, with the
past few years following a pattern of close game, blow out,
close game, blow out. Last year saw a 3 point win so, in our
'winning margin' market, a play on up to 24 points looks best.
I'm not sure the Philly defense will be able to cope with
Corey Dillon, so expect him to have a big game. He looks a
worth favorite in our 'First Touchdown' market at 5/1, but
a more speculative wager could be Christian Fauria at 12/1.
New England have two decent Tight Ends in Daniel Graham and
Fauria, but with Graham likely to be used to help out on blocking
Javon 'the freak' Kearse, that leaves Fauria as the main catching
T/E.
