Trainer Sir Mark Prescott clearly holds her in the
highest regard and she should soon recover the losses, although the
odds are unlikely to be so generous in future.
Life is rarely dull for Kieren Fallon, the six-time champion jockey,
and he an eventful afternoon at Goodwood on Saturday.
After diving out of the way and narrowly escaping serious injury
when Gift Horse (5-1 to 9-2) spun round and lashed out as he went to
mount before the Vodafone Stewards’ Cup, Fallon conjured a
tremendous late surge from the Dandy Nicholls-trained five-year-old
to catch Fonthill Road (10-1) on the line in the 6f cavalry charge.
Race watchers were treated to a glimpse of Fallon at the peak of his
powers and most observers were praising his efforts.
However, he was highly critical of the ride he gave the horse,
suggesting he had given his mount far too much to do.
Whatever, punters who placed £17,800 on Gift Horse in recorded bets
alone, were more than happy with the jockey, even if they had been
sweating for 99.9% of the race.
Fallon ended the week as Glorious Goodwood’s leading jockey.
Apprentice Saleem Golam looks a star of the future and he impressed
again with his handling of James Caird (6-1 to 7-2), who justified
£7,100 of noted support, with a smooth success in the concluding in
a 11f apprentices handicap
