Tax Free is the favourite today for the William Hill Trophy at York (3.25), which is no surprise considering his trainer's record with sprinters. David Nicholls' horse is a short priced 4/1, and will be gunning for a hat-trick in this Saturday's race. Tax Free scored for the third time in four outings at Newmarket this month, but the ground must be taken into consideration for this performance.

David Nicholls' has stated that he runs best on faster ground, and as there is plenty of rain forecast for the race, we are going to overlook Tax Free's chances and look further down the field.  Marching Song at 12/1 looks to fit the bill. The Richard Hannon horse does look fresh for this time of the season, and he still remains relatively lightly raced for a sprint handicapper. He should go close here today and get one back on his main rival Gimasha, who won by a short head at a competitive 6f contest at Windsor earlier this month.

With his added fitness and spark, Marching Song can get one over today and should go close.

Recommendation:  Marching Song @ 12/1

The main event at Goodwood on Sunday is the Celebration Mile (3.15).

The big backers have gone for Layman after winning at Salisbury in his last race. The Godolphin horse is likely to be there or thereabouts, but the bookmakers have taken his win into account in the betting, and he may be a little too short to be taken.

One consistent performer here with good course form is Majors Cast, who can follow up his wins in a maiden and a decent event at Lingfield in September, by going close today. He has improved with each race, winning three times in Dubai, and he really stood out at Newbury last time out.

Recommendation: Majors Cast
