Diamond Stakes Betting
Dundalk feature race of the Flat season is the Group Three Diamond Stakes, which is for horses aged three-years and over, and is run over the 10 furlong all-weather.
Classified as a Listed event, the prestigious race is always run on the first Friday of October under the floodlight and in front of a packed house at the popular Dundalk track. Trainer Aidan O'Brien is the leading trainer in the race with four wins (Mikado 2004, Moutain 2006, Mastercraftsman 2008 and Freedom 2011).
As previously stated the 2011 renewal was won by Ballydoyle and O'Brien with Freedom but in truth it was a very poor renewal of the race with the favourite Zanughan performing well below his best. Since 1988 three-year-olds have won all bar five renewals of the race, which certainly points towards keeping the Classic generation onside for the 2012 meeting.
As with most years the leading chances will come from the Aidan O'Brien-yard. From his seven three-year-old entries the most exciting looks to be former Derby entrant and Dante favourite Ernest Hemingway.
The son of Galileo looked top-class when winning a race on the Dundalk all-weather before going lame in the Dante at York where he was backed to do the business.
Ballydoyle rarely get an ability of a horse wrong, and if he has recovered from his injury sustained at York, then he will be a leading player if taking up his entry at Dundalk.
Of the other Ballydoyle contingent Treasure Beach would also merit respect if turned out by O'Brien.
Don't forget there's still plenty of horse racing free bets to pick up from numerous bookmakers across the UK. Rest assured we'll be bringing you the latest offers as they arrive.
This is a horse that won the Irish Derby in 2011 but has gone off the boil slightly, and was even used as a pacemaker in last year's Prix d'Arc De Triomphe, but certainly has talent and may appreciate the underfoot conditions on the Polytrack.
